“Although our cause is worth dying for, it’s our insistence on living that bothers our enemies the most.”
- My late friend, professor, and colleague, Refaat Alareer
Hello, I’m Mohammed R. Mhawish, a journalist and writer born and raised in Gaza.
After years of covering from the ground about the war and destruction in my homeland for major outlets like MSNBC, The Nation, Al Jazeera, +972 Magazine, and The Economist, I’m launching my space to write unfiltered stories about Palestine and my hometown, Gaza, away from the constraints of mainstream media, from my perspective as a journalist, storyteller, and displaced Palestinian writer
Before anything else, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the platforms and news organizations that have trusted me to tell these vital stories. Without them, my voice — and the voices of many in Gaza — would not have reached the world. This space isn’t born from a lack of appreciation, but from the recognition that there’s still so much work to be done. There are stories that remain unheard, angles unexplored, and conversations stifled by the limitations imposed on mainstream coverage.
More than ever, I feel a responsibility to share the untold, the censored, and the ignored truths that don’t make it to the front pages. I’ve covered the horrors of war, the struggles of daily life under blockade, and the dreams that persist despite all odds. As the war forced me into exile, writing has become not just my career but my lifeline — a way to stay connected to the land I can no longer live on.
I’ve seen how the headlines too often fail to tell the full story of Palestinian life — not only those of death tolls and numbers of the injured — but stories of resilience too, survival, life, and the people’s tireless fight for freedom and insistence on living.
This platform is where I’ll continue this work. I’ll bring you first-hand accounts, deep analysis, and personal reflections on the ongoing fight for Palestinian liberation, drawing on over six years of experience reporting from the frontlines. This is journalism that doesn’t shy away from the raw, the real, and the personal.
If you value independent journalism, if you believe in the power of stories to change the world, then I invite you to subscribe and support this newsletter. Your pledge will directly sustain my work and help me continue to write and report without fear of censorship or corporate interests.
The reality is that as a displaced Palestinian writer, I rely solely on the support of readers like you to keep this project going. By subscribing and pledging your support, you’re not just supporting me — you’re amplifying the voice of a people struggling for justice, one story at a time.
Together, we can keep these stories alive.
Thank you for reading, and for being part of this journey.
Warmly,
Mohammed R. Mhawish
